I had this book when I was very young, like 5 or 6. I remember it scaring me very much. The illustrations are great and the plot...well, when the guy's wife made a "new head" for him out of a pillowcase, after he lost his original head, that might have been a little too much for my five year old mind to handle. And it freaked me the hell out. I recommend this book to everyone because young kids deserve to be freaked out.
One of the best children's books ever -- a riff on Gogol's The Nose , with echoes of Chekhov and Tolstoy. My six year old grandson loves it and so do I. I wish the illustrator would tackle Anna Karenina .
